Taking Innovation Nationwide

We’re Building the Nation’s First Association of Museum Schools!

A recently awarded federal grant of $150,000 will allow our school to create a nationwide Museum School Network, uniting more than 30 museum schools from at least 10 states. The association will share best practices for boosting student achievement at top-performing schools with educators and administrators across the nation.

The vision of Katherine Kelbaugh, principal of The Museum School of Avondale Estates, the project has potential to improve student engagement and achievement in a substantial way across Georgia and the country!

Capital Campaign

Help Us Meet Student Needs Today and Tomorrow!

The past five years have been exciting ones for Museum School families, who have built a top-quality school with a tremendous grassroots, volunteer effort.

Since the school's opening in 2010, its student population has more than doubled, a middle-school program has been added, and the school moved into a fantastic permanent location! With that growth comes the task of funding all renovation costs for a facility that dates back to the 1950s.

This summer's renovations include re-roofing part of the oldest building, adding a cutting-edge STEM lab and constructing a walkway bridge between the upper and lower buildings to meet ADA requirements!

Exceeding Expectations, our capital campaign, supports our five-year renovation process, and we need your support. Please join us as we tackle the challenges of the next few years in The Museum School's exciting journey.

Jess' Artwork Wins State Award

With bittersweet pride, The Museum School congratulates the family of Jess Willadsen, whose poster drawing won first place in a statewide conservation art competition.

Jess' entry to the Give Wildlife a Chance Poster Contest placed first in the Third-Fourth Grade category. Nearly 2,500 Georgia children in grades K-5 submitted entries, and Jess' poster was one of only 12 selected as winners.

With a 2014 theme of "Plug into Nature, the 24th annual contest was sponsored by the Georgia Dept. of Natural Resources' Wildlife Resources Division, The State Botanical Garden of Georgia and The Environmental Resources Network, Inc. Winning entries are on display through May 16 at the DNR's Go Fish Education Center in Perry, Georgia.

Announced just weeks after Jess' passing, the award recognizes both her talent as a budding artist and her love of the outdoors. Highly creative and kind to people and animals alike, The Museum School fourth grader was a great friend of nature and a protector of all things furry and cute.

Our Big Achievers

For the fourth consecutive year, our Explorers have scored high marks on the statewide CRCT exam, given to students in grades three and higher. In the majority of subjects and grade levels, more than 97% of our students met or exceeded state standards!

Highlights include 100% of all our Explorers meeting or exceeding standards in Reading and 100% of our fifth graders meeting or exceededing standards in all five subject areas. Way to go Explorers!
