We’re a Public School
The Museum School is a public school, chartered by the state of Georgia. As such, it has flexibility to set its own academic benchmarks and is accountable to the state for achieving the goals written in its charter. It is open to all children in the attendance zone, based on available space, and it is free.

The Museum School Model
Our school uses the museum model of education, partnering with museums and other educational institutions to provide hands-on experiences and opportunities to explore. Museum learning brings a depth of understanding and reinforces classroom lessons.

Learning at The Museum School is student-centered and project-based. Students tackle nine-week lesson themes and examine them from all angles, creating museum-style exhibits to demonstrate what they’ve learned. Four times a year, they share these projects and their knowledge with parents and other community members at Exhibit Night.

In-class instruction is focused on students’ individual learning styles, readiness and prior understandings and experiences. Teachers are trained to evaluate each student’s skills and needs and then design curriculum accordingly, meeting each child at his or her current knowledge level. This teaching model allows students to move beyond basic proficiency and toward academic excellence.

Operating as a charter school allows us to implement this unique but proven model that is aligned with Georgia Performance Standards yet is not available in any other Georgia public school. We believe museum learning will lead to higher student achievement.
